Chicago Bus Driver Cited in Fatal Crash

No one ever sets out to cause an accident while driving, but nevertheless accidents happen every day in Chicago. Sometimes accidents are caused because people make careless mistakes and other times they can occur when drivers negligently or willfully disobey traffic laws. No matter the cause of an accident, when someone is injured in a crash due to someone else’s bad judgment then the injured person could be eligible to receive compensation for his or her loss and suffering.

One woman was killed recently and eight other people were hurt after a crash involving a CTA bus occurred on Michigan Avenue. According to reports, the bus struck a 51-year-old woman as she was walking on the sidewalk. The woman became trapped under the bus and she later died from the injuries she suffered. Meantime, eight other people suffered injuries but the severity of those injuries was not available at the time of this report. However, they were not believed to be life threatening. Meantime, the driver of the CTA bus has been cited for multiple violations after the accident.

According to reports, authorities have cited the driver with failure to stop at a red light and failure to exercise due care. At the time of this report, the driver had not been charged with any criminal charges but officials said the investigation is still ongoing. The bus reportedly stopped at the red light, initially, but then went through the light and hit two pedestrians and four cars before it jumped onto the sidewalk. According to authorities, CTA officials evaluated the bus driver but he did not show any signs of impairment from alcohol or drugs after the crash.

This is obviously a terrible tragedy for everyone involved. Those who were hurt will no doubt have injuries to overcome as well as the mental anxiety of being involved in the accident. Likewise, they could have several medical bills and some or all of them could suffer loss of income and other difficulties. Meanwhile, the family members of the woman who was killed are undoubtedly suffering from their loss.

All of the victims are hurting because this bus driver chose to run the red light. It is possible that any one, or all, of them could pursue lawsuits against the driver and/or the bus company for this auto accident.
