Millions of vehicles travel the roads of Chicago every day. Unfortunately, there are also accidents every day. While some accidents are simply caused by unfortunate mistakes or circumstances, other accidents happen because of the poor decisions of certain drivers on the road. When these types of accidents happen, people can be serious hurt or even killed.
A serious motor vehicle crash has ended in tragedy after a five-year-old girl was fatally injured. The girl’s father was also seriously hurt in the crash, which was allegedly caused by a 17-year-old boy who lost control of his vehicle and swerved into the wrong lane. The crash, which involved three vehicles, occurred when the 17-year-old driver of a Mercedes Benz swerved out of his lane into the oncoming lane of traffic after failing to properly manage a curve in the road.
The Mercedes slammed head-on into a Toyota SUV that was traveling in that lane. Following the initial collision, a third car, crashed into the back of the Toyota. The girl who was killed in the crash and her 45-year-old father were in the Toyota. Both were taken to a nearby hospital where the girl later died. The girl was in a car seat in the back of the vehicle when the crash occurred. Meantime the 17-year-old Mercedes driver was also injured in the crash and was in the hospital being treated at the time of this report. The driver of the third vehicle was not seriously injured.
Authorities did issue a citation to the teenage driver, who lost control of his vehicle, for driving in the wrong lane. This is obviously a terrible tragedy, with steep consequences. While authorities are still working to determine what caused the crash, including if excessive speed or alcohol were a factor, it appears that the 17-year-old was at fault. The family of the girl who was killed could be entitled to compensation for their loss. Additionally, the girl’s father might also be eligible to receive damages for his injuries, pain and suffering.
While no amount of money will bring this girl back, being fairly compensated for her loss, as well as for her father’s injuries, could help ease the recovery process for the family.
