Pedestrian Seriously Hurt After Being Struck by Off-Duty Officer

16 September, 2015

When a car crash occurs between two vehicles the consequences are often very serious. However, when a vehicle strikes a pedestrian, in most cases the consequences turn deadly. Likewise, when someone gets behind the wheel of a vehicle while they are drunk the consequences are also often very serious or even fatal. Anytime someone drives while impaired and strikes a pedestrian the injured person, or his or her family members, might want to consider filing a personal injury lawsuit.

A Chicago woman is still in critical condition after she was struck by a vehicle while attempting to enter a crosswalk after getting off a bus. According to reports, the woman was struck so hard that the impact sent her flying in the air before landing hard on the pavement and slamming her head. Authorities say that the woman suffered several serious injuries, including bleeding on the brain. Doctors have placed the woman in a medial coma in order to relieve the pressure on her brain. Medical officials say that she is still in “very critical condition.”

Meanwhile, the man that was allegedly driving the car that struck the woman was an off-duty police officer who was reportedly drunk at the time of the accident. According to reports, the man did admit to officers at the scene that he had been drinking earlier in the evening. He claimed that he did not see the woman before he hit her. The off-duty officer has been charged with a felony in the case for aggravated DUI with great bodily harm. According to authorities he did submit to a breath test, which registered a blood-alcohol content of .92, which is above the legal limit.

This woman has obviously been the victim of a terrible accident, which was no fault of her own. It’s possible that she might not even survive her injuries. Even if she does survive it is also very likely that she will never enjoy the same quality of life that she did before the accident occurred. This is a perfect example of someone who should speak with an experienced auto accident lawyer. No one should have to suffer because of another person’s bad decisions.
