Two People Dead After Teen Driver Fails to Stop at Red Light

Motor vehicle accidents are one of the worst types of accidents anyone can be involved in. People are often seriously hurt and many times auto accidents can be fatal. It is always a tragedy when someone dies in a motor vehicle accident, especially a child or teenager, who had his or her whole life in front of him or her. What’s more is that many auto accidents could be avoided if people exercised more caution on the roads.

Whenever someone dies in a car accident there are many questions that have to be answered, including what caused the accident and could it have been prevented? In some cases, accidents simply are unfortunate mistakes. However, in other instances they occur because someone decides to do something reckless or careless, which ends up with tragic results.

Two young high school students were recently killed after the SUV in which they were traveling collided with a tractor-trailer. The accident reportedly happened because the driver of the SUV, a 17-year-old male, failed to stop at a red light. According to reports, there were six teenagers inside the SUV at the time of the crash. All of them but one passenger were wearing seatbelts. Three people were checked at the scene and released. One passenger died at the scene, while the driver and one other passenger were taken to nearby a hospital. The driver was later transferred to another hospital but the other injured passenger did not survive. Both of the decedents were just 16-years-old.

This is a terrible tragedy that could have been avoided. It’s not clear why the young driver did not stop at the red light. Likewise, it was not reported as to whether or not he was distracted or speeding at the time of the crash. In any case, if he is responsible for this accident and in turn the death of the two victims, then it’s possible that the family members of the victims could purse legal action.

At the law office of Michael T. Friedman & Associates P.C., we know that these kinds of events can have lasting damages on family members of the victims for years to come.
